Pedestrian crossings just got a little safer now with the installation of new Pedestrian Countdown Crossing Signals along all of the intersections on Central Avenue. The new signals show a countdown to warn pedestrians when the signal is about to change and is no longer safe to cross. The intersections of Pickett Road at Central Ave and City Center Road at Central Ave also have “chirping / talking” signals to assist people with disabilities in crossing safely.
Humboldt County Public Works, Roads / Traffic Division began work on Monday, August 20 and completed on Tuesday, August 21, with a total of 41 new countdown signals being installed. This project was funded by a grant from the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP).
