$1.2 million dollars is in the coffers in Humboldt County, money owed by people growing pot without a permit. In the past 24 months, the county has sent out some 600 notices to people who weren’t operating within the confines of the law. Those abatement notices give them 10 days to either shut it down, sign a compliance agreement or appeal. If that doesn’t happen, it’s a $10,000 penalty per day violation. The city is still owed another $1 million dollars from growers.
