Two Sunday Fires In Eureka

By Newsroom

Two fires in Eureka Sunday. One happened at about 5:30pm on the 1300 block of Gross Street . A single story home was on fire and an occupant was trying to put it out when crews arrived. Fire crews quickly extinguished the fire and removed the occupant to the outside. The occupant was evaluated for minor
smoke inhalation but refused further treatment. It was determined that the fire was caused by combustibles too close to a wood stove. Earlier in the day, at 1:30pm, firefighters battled a house fire on the 1400 block of John Hill Road. The fire was in an office attached to the home. A downed power line created a hazard there and Pacific Gas and Electric promptly responded to the scene and de-energized the service line.
Fire crews attacked the fire and had it extinguished within ten minutes. The cause of the fire was directly related to the power service being damaged by a tree on the property that had fallen in to the power source for the house.
