A change in testimony from an eyewitness to a deadly fight in a Garberville alley. Reginald Newlin initally said he saw William Hinson strike tourist Khanh Lam as Lam lay over a guardrail from earlier blows. The final swing by Hinson cost Lam his life. Newlin, in a third day of testimony, said he thought Lam had brought the beating on himself by trying to take a child out of a van, which led to a group of people, Hinson included, chasing him down. Newlin said in the excitement that followed, Hinson grabbed a board out of Lam’s hand and struck him with it.
